Here's my two sentences:
"I made her half a curtsey. I did not say -- which I might have -- that she should be thankful I had not turned back at Paddington; that I wished I had turned back; and that for anyone to have had the time that I had had, in trying to get forty miles from London, perhaps went to prove that London wasn't meant to be left -- I did not say that."
page 61, Fingersmith, by Sarah Waters
I'm about 140 pages into Fingersmith, set in Victorian England. The main character, Susan, grew up with a rough crowd of thieves in London and, as part of a confidence scheme, has been sent to Maidenhead to pose as a ladies maid. This book is full of colorful characters and I've heard so many great things about it. I specifically saved this book for a time when I'm off work so I can dive in and enjoy!
