Wendy at Caribousmom is hosting a themed reading challenge in the first half of 2008. The idea is to choose at least 4 books that share a theme (historical romances, setting, etc. etc.). I thought this would be a good way to chip away at the TBR pile, although finding a theme was more difficult than I'd thought. I finally decided on "cultural tensions / culture clashes".

My List:
  1. Cry the Beloved Country, by Alan Paton (completed 1/13/2008 - review)
  2. The Space Between Us, by Thrity Umrigar (completed 2/28/2008 - review)
  3. House of Sand and Fog, by Andre Dubus, III (completed 3/24/2008 - review)
  4. The Piano Tuner, by Daniel Mason (completed 4/7/2008 - review)
  5. We wish to Inform you that Tomorrow we will be Killed with our Families, by Philip Gourevitch (completed 5/30/2008 - review)
  6. Ines of my Soul, by Isabel Allende (completed 6/15/2008 - review)

I'll be curious to know what you think of "House of Sand and Fog." Definitely a cultural clash book. =) I look forward to your reviews of these books in 2008 (don't you have the feeling it will be January before we know it?).

I like your theme, Laura! Great list of books. These are all books that have interested me, but the only one I've read so far is The Space Between Us. So, I'll look forward to your reviews :)

Great idea for your theme! I look forward to hearing your thoughts. I have Cry, the Beloved Country, We Wish to Inform You, and The Space Between Us on my TBR!

What a great theme! Ines of my soul is an Allende book I haven't read yet, and I'm interested to hear what you think of Cry the Beloved Country. I also have Piano Tuner on my shelf, it was a gift from my MIL, although I haven't really looked at it yet!
